Лариса окончила один из университетов Бразилии по специализации «туризм». Некоторое время работала менеджером в туристическом агентстве и гостинице, параллельно подрабатывая моделью на показах одежды, а также снимаясь для различных журналов (естественно бразильских). Самым значительным событием при «подработке» явилось участие Ларисы в одном из мероприятий, организованных знаменитым изданием Playboy. И свершилось маленькое чудо: в результате конкурсного отбора, несмотря на отсутствие опыта участия в таких шоу, да и на наличие нескольких сотен претенденток со всей Бразилии, она попала в команду Playboy. Этот шаг стал для нее лишь первой ступенью в новой карьере. Предложения работать и целевые направления в сфере модельного бизнеса привели ее в один из торговых домов, занимающихся продажей спортивного питания. Она стала лицом рекламной кампании. И именно тогда, еще во время собеседования при приеме на работу, она увидела на стене постер с Моникой Брант (профессиональная фитнес-спортсменка из США). Лариса была поражена этой женщиной.
«Никогда раньше я не сталкивалась с такими девушками, я не имела никаких понятий о том, что такое фитнес-модель, и даже была слегка шокирована. Но мне безумно понравилось, как она выглядит. Собеседование — плакат — фитнес-индустрия — все это и толкнуло меня в спорт, в фитнес, в работу над изменением и поддержанием своего тела».
В то время в Бразилии фитнес и как спорт, и как образ жизни еще не был особо популярен, поэтому Лара столкнулась с некоторыми препятствиями в начале своего пути, однако останавливаться она не собиралась. К тому же ей откровенно везло. И с тренерами, которые обучили ее методикам тренинга и питания, и с безусловной поддержкой близких ей людей во всех начинаниях. В 2008 году Лариса, уже как профессиональная спортсменка, приняла участие в нескольких шоу в США. И, в конце концов, стала первой бразильянкой, занявшей первое место в Pro Show (Atlantic City 2009), что позволило ей принять участие в Olympia-2009.
